John Boos was founded in 1887 in Illinois USA, as a blacksmiths shop. As blacksmiths they would work in their smithy using a trunk of a sycamore tree to absorb the knocks and blows of their hammers on horseshoes. One day a local butcher called into their smithy and was really impressed by the sycamore block the smiths were using. He asked John Boos if he would make him a wooden block to use in his butchers shop – and then as they say, the rest is history.
John boos, today, is a highly reputed manufacturer of wooden butchers’ blocks, chopping boards, worktops supplying customers both in the USA and worldwide. Their customers even include the White House.
